The year’s final supermoon, known as the ‘Harvest Moon,’ will be visible on September 29 in the UAE over the last long weekend of 2023.
This three-day holiday will feature a day off on Friday to mark the birthday of Prophet Muhammad, followed by the traditional Saturday-Sunday weekend. A supermoon occurs when the full Moon is closest to Earth, resulting in a somewhat bigger and brighter appearance.
This event is described as a spectacular visual spectacle by the Dubai Astronomy Group. The Harvest Moon is called from its proximity to the beginning of fall, which historically aided farmers in nighttime harvesting.
There is no need for special equipment to witness this celestial event, however there will be a ticketed event at the Al Thuraya Astronomy Centre in Dubai’s Mushrif Park, which will include talks, telescope viewing, and photography.
Two supermoons were sighted in August 2023, with the second being the brightest of the year.
