The UAE’s Disaster Victim Identification (DVI) team arrived in Libya on September 21, 2023. This is the first time such a team has been despatched to Derna in reaction to the current natural catastrophe that has struck the country. The project launched by the UAE seeks to aid Libya in the aftermath of disastrous floods caused by excessive rains, which regrettably resulted in countless fatalities and injuries.
Dr. Issa Ahmed Al Awadhi, the team’s head, met with Libya’s ministries of health and interior, as well as other Derna authorities, upon their arrival. These conversations were centred on developing operational strategies for the identification procedure.
The team is comprised of experts, specialists, and consultants in subjects such as forensic medicine, dentistry, and DNA analysis, and is outfitted with cutting-edge instruments and technology designed for dealing with large fatalities.
