Residents in the UAE often plan their vacations and personal events in consideration of public holidays and long weekends. With 2023 more than halfway through, there are two remaining long weekends: a three-day break during the new Hijri year from July 21 to July 23, and another long break from September 29 to October 1. The last holiday of the year will mark the UAE National Day on December 2 and 3.
Looking ahead to 2024, residents can expect a potential nine-day break in the first half of the year for Eid Al Fitr. Based on astronomical calculations, Ramadan is projected to begin on March 11, 2024, and Eid Al Fitr is likely to fall on April 10, 2024. According to the UAE government announcement, Eid Al Fitr holidays are typically from Ramadan 29 to Shawwal 3. This would mean a break for UAE employees from April 8 to April 12. By including two weekends, employees could enjoy a nine-day break from April 6 to April 14.
The expected dates released by the Emirates Astronomy Society align with the projected dates on the Islamic Finder website. It’s important to note that dates in the Islamic (Hijri) calendar are subject to change as they are based on moon sightings.
Additionally, Eid Al Adha in 2024 is anticipated to begin on June 17, according to Ibrahim Al Jarwan, chairman of the Emirates Astronomy Centre. If Eid Al Adha falls on the announced date, employees in the UAE can expect a five-day break from June 15 to June 19.
Residents who are planning weddings or extended vacations can look forward to these anticipated holiday breaks for their future planning.
