The United Arab Emirates will commemorate “Emirati Women’s Day” on August 28, 2023. This yearly event recognises Emirati women’s achievements and major contributions to the country’s growth. This year’s theme, “We Collaborate for Tomorrow,” is consistent with the UAE’s emphasis on sustainability and innovation in areas like as energy and climate change.
The UAE has continuously fared strongly in gender equality indexes, ranking 11th globally and first in the Arab world in the United Nations Development Programme’s 2022 Gender Inequality Index.
It was ranked first in the Middle East and North Africa in both the World Bank’s “Women, Business, and the Law Report 2023” and the World Economic Forum’s 2022 Global Gender Gap Report.
The UAE has strongly encouraged the participation of women in positions of political leadership and decision-making. One of the greatest percentages of women in the world, around 27.5 percent of the government’s ministerial formation and 50 percent of the Federal National Council (FNC) membership, are female. According to the Global Competitiveness Index and the Global Gender Gap Report, the UAE also lead the world in the representation of women in parliament.
Over 20 law articles pertaining to labour, protection, political involvement, personal status, wages, banking, marriage, business, and other topics have been amended by the UAE in recent years. These modifications have improved women’s chances, rights, and safeguards while also raising the UAE’s competitiveness on the international stage.
