Transforming Dubai: sustainable, green, and flourishing!

Dubai’s population has increased dramatically, going from 40,000 in the 1960s to over 3.6 million in 2023. In order to build a greener and more sustainable city for an anticipated 5.8 million people, Dubai is starting its seventh development plan, the 2040 Urban Master Plan, under the visionary leadership of His Highness Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum.

More than half of Dubai’s population will reside close to public transit by 2040, while the city’s green space will grow by 105%. The concept intends to make Dubai into a 20-minute metropolis, where places can be reached by bike or foot in that amount of time. Thrilling projects include:

  • 60% of Dubai is designated as natural reserves: Dubai will place a high priority on protecting the environment and rural regions with stunning green corridors connecting service areas, homes, and companies.
  • Imagine flying over artificial lakes while taking in hobbies like skydiving, horseback riding, and kayaking. The Saih Al Salam Scenic Route will provide a unique experience with its air taxis, hot air balloons, open-air theatres, and glass-domed hotels.
  • Hatta, a mountain retreat, will change. It will now be a year-round tourist attraction. The 5.4 kilometre cable car journey to Um Al Nesoor offers beautiful views of the Hatta Dam and the surrounding mountains, and visitors may explore the Hatta Waterfalls.
  • With protected natural reserves and archaeological monuments, Lehbab, Margham, Al Marmoom, Al Lisaili, Al Faqaa, and Al Aweer will be developed as popular tourist attractions.
  • Expanding public beaches: By 2040, Dubai’s breathtaking coastline will grow from 21 kilometres to 105 kilometres, providing additional sun, sand, and entertainment. Mangroves, water sports, bike paths, and walkways will all improve the beach experience.

The future of Dubai is promising, sustainable, and brimming with possibilities for both locals and visitors. Together, let’s embrace this transformational trip!
