Masdar City’s Masdar Park in Abu Dhabi has achieved an “Exemplar” design rating under the Estidama Public Realm Rating System, making it the second community park in the city and the region to attain this recognition. This achievement signifies that Masdar Park’s plans meet or exceed the Estidama system’s standards for economic, environmental, social, and cultural sustainability.
Mohamed Al Breiki, Masdar City’s executive director of sustainable real estate, emphasized the city’s commitment to sustainability and innovation, stating that their parks are designed to be innovative, sustainable, and future-focused while meeting cultural needs and enhancing the quality of life.
Masdar Park plays a crucial role in Masdar City’s sustainable urban development strategy, offering open green spaces and recreational facilities that align with Abu Dhabi’s goal to become a preferred place to live, work, and play. The park incorporates recycled materials and includes a variety of sports facilities and leisure amenities.
Additionally, the park features a food hall offering diverse cuisines and indoor/outdoor dining spaces. In line with the UAE’s Year of Sustainability, it will host Abu Dhabi’s first LEED Platinum-rated community mosque, designed to foster social cohesion and enhance quality of life. LEED Platinum is the highest international standard for green buildings.
Sebastien Miller, Masdar City’s public realm manager, highlighted the park’s advanced sustainability practices and its role as an educational destination for sustainability. In 2022, Masdar City’s Central Park also achieved an “Exemplar” rating under the Estidama PRRS, further reinforcing the city’s commitment to sustainability in both public gathering spaces and urban communities.
