The Dubai Offshore Sailing Club (DOSC) is excited to announce its prestigious role as the host of the annual IRC Middle East Championships.  This will be held on the weekend of the 16th and 17th of December, 2023.  

IRC is the globally-recognised performance rating system which allows keelboats of all shapes and sizes to compete against each other at an equal level.  It is used in many of the most prestigious yacht racing events around the world.

Following the success of the first ever IRC Middle East Championships, held in December 2022 and noted for its spirited competition and sportsmanship, the opportunity to host it again serves as a testament to DOSC’s commitment to nurturing a diverse range of sailing talents and promoting an inclusive atmosphere for sailing enthusiasts from various disciplines.

“Whilst the majority of participating boats this year are anticipated to originate from DOSC, we are hopeful that this event will begin to yield an increased regional presence in the IRC fold in the years to come,” stated Ed Shiffner, Rear Commodore at DOSC. “By elevating the stature of the IRC Middle East Championships and the IRC rating system, we are working to promote an equal and fair sporting environment where sailing enthusiasts from around the world not only feel welcome to join this friendly regatta, but also other racing events that DOSC hosts throughout the season. As winter approaches in Dubai, the much-loved family attraction, the Dubai Miracle Garden, is set to welcome visitors once again on October 1st, following its summer closure. Spanning an impressive 72,000 square meters, it holds the title of the world’s largest natural flower garden, boasting a staggering 150 million flowers representing over 120 different varieties.

Now in its twelfth season, the garden features intricate topiary displays and numerous award-winning floral arrangements, some of which have earned Guinness World Records. Notable among them are a record-breaking Emirates A380 and an 18-meter tall floral rendition of Mickey Mouse, marking the first Disney character display of its kind in the Middle East.

The Emirates Motorsports Organisation (EMSO) and the Abu Dhabi Sports Council (ADSC) have joined forces to launch the Abu Dhabi Baja Challenge. On October 14, 2023, a brand-new community championship is scheduled to begin, adding an exciting new chapter to Abu Dhabi’s illustrious racing heritage. It supports the work of ADSC to improve athletes’ abilities in a variety of sports.

Four rounds will make up the championship, with the first two taking place in October and December of this year and the other two in early 2024. The event is part of the Abu Dhabi 360 project, which supports an active lifestyle and provides participants discounted registration costs. The Abu Dhabi Baja Challenge also seeks to develop potential and serve as a springboard for occasions like the famed Abu Dhabi Desert Challenge (ADDC), which is renowned for its top-notch rally-raid contests.

By joining other prominent events like the ADDC and the Formula 1 Etihad Airways Abu Dhabi Grand Prix, this project deepens the partnership between the ADSC and EMSO even further. There has been a huge increase in demand for the new model since the iPhone 15 was just released in the UAE. A few customers spent about AED200,000 at stores in Dubai, some of whom bought numerous smartphones. Prices for the iPhone 15 variants originally varied from AED3,399 to AED6,799.

On classified websites like Dubizzle, many purchasers are currently reselling their iPhones in an effort to capitalise on the increased demand. New iPhone models are frequently resold not long after they go on sale. Even imported phones from foreign markets are available from some vendors.

For instance, a vendor who imported the iPhone 15 Pro Max 1TB from Hong Kong is selling it online for AED9,980, even though Apple outlets in the UAE charge AED6,799 for it. Compared to iPhones imported from other nations like China or Japan, phones initially intended for the UAE market typically fetch higher resale prices.

Prices for the Pro Max 256GB, which costs AED5,099 at Apple shops, are almost 40% higher on various classified websites, with postings ranging from AED5,300 to AED7,200. Other variants, including the Pro 512GB and Pro 256GB, have comparable markups. The scarcity of these brand-new handsets is being taken advantage of by buyers to increase resale prices.
