Dubai Police respond to emergencies in under 3 minutes, response rate of 99.7%

Dubai Police achieved impressive response times, with security patrols reaching emergency sites in an average of 2 minutes and 32 seconds, surpassing their target of three minutes. Emergency calls to 999 had a response rate of 99.7% within 10 seconds, exceeding the target of 97%. 

In total, they responded to 7.4 million calls in 2022. Major General Pilot Ahmad Mohammed bin Thani inspected various AI advancements, including the “Virtual Operations Room” smart goggles and a handheld wireless operations toolkit. 

Additionally, he learned about innovative projects and achievements within the General Department of Operations, including advancements in drone technology and recognition for innovation in the Dubai Police Commander-in-Chief Awards. 

The department also extended its membership in the European Emergency Number Association (EENA) and pioneered the E-call service as a third-party service in the country.

Sheikh Hamdan announces Global Prompt Engineering Championship with AED 1M prize

Sheikh Hamdan bin Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Crown Prince of Dubai, has announced the Global Prompt Engineering Championship, a competition leveraging Generative AI with a total prize of AED1 million. 

Organized in partnership with the Dubai Centre for Artificial Intelligence and held at the Museum of the Future, the event will feature three main categories: literature, art, and coding. 

The championship aims to strengthen Dubai and the UAE’s position as a hub for Generative AI talent and innovation in prompt engineering. The competition aligns with Dubai’s efforts to foster technological advancement and attract top talent in the field.

UAE strongly condemns Israeli minister’s nuclear bomb statement on Gaza

The UAE strongly condemns the statements made by Israeli Minister of Heritage Amihai Eliyahu regarding the possibility of dropping a nuclear bomb on the Gaza Strip. The UAE views these statements as a violation of international law and an incitement to commit serious violations of International Humanitarian Law, including war crimes, raising concerns of an intent to commit genocide.

The Ministry of Foreign Affairs (MoFA) of the UAE categorically rejects the threat of using nuclear weapons and emphasizes the immediate priority of preserving the lives of civilians and providing them with necessary humanitarian assistance.

The UAE reaffirms the need for an immediate ceasefire to prevent further loss of life and stresses the importance of protecting civilians in accordance with international law and treaties, ensuring they are not targeted during conflicts.

Additionally, the UAE calls on the international community to intensify efforts to avoid escalating the situation in the Occupied Palestinian Territory. It urges the advancement of comprehensive and just peace efforts while preventing the region from being drawn into new levels of violence, tension, and instability.

UAE issues alerts for continuing heavy rains; safety measures urged

The National Centre of Meteorology (NCM) has issued yellow and orange alerts for continued heavy rains in the UAE. The NCM has warned of hazardous weather events, and the public is advised to follow the rules issued by authorities. 

Residents are urged to be cautious when going outdoors, especially when driving. The Abu Dhabi Police has issued an alert for motorists to be careful and pay attention to changing speed limits, which will be displayed on electronic signs along the road. 

Additionally, light to moderate winds may cause blowing dust and sand. Temperatures will range between 25°C and 32°C in Abu Dhabi and Dubai. 

The sea conditions will be moderate to rough at times, particularly in the Arabian Gulf, and slight to moderate with rough patches in the Oman Sea.

Middle East Film & Comic Con to welcome artist behind Marvel, Star Wars comics

Middle East Film & Comic Con (MEFCC), the region’s largest pop culture festival, has announced its first comic creator for 2024, Filipino artist Stephen Segovia, known for his comic illustrations for Marvel, Batman, Star Wars, X-Men, Moon Knight, and more, will be joining next year’s convention for all three days.

Stephen Segovia broke into the comic book industry at the young age of 16, with his work with DC Comics on the likes of Superman and Redhood and the Outlaws establishing him as one of the industry’s hot new talents. Stephen is currently working with Todd McFarlane on an ongoing  team book called The Scorched, which assembles some of the most well-known characters of the Spawn comics.

Pope Francis to attend COP28 Climate Conference in Dubai, a historic first

Pope Francis announced that he will attend the COP28 climate conference in Dubai next month, marking the first time a pontiff will be present at a U.N. environmental meeting since its inception in 1995. 

The conference will take place from November 30 to December 12, and the Pope is expected to reinforce his recent call for urgent measures to address global warming during his visit

Dubai South Ride and Run set to energize fitness enthusiasts

The Dubai South Ride and Dubai South Run, part of the Dubai Fitness Challenge, are set to take place on Sunday, November 5th. 

The cycling event will start at Dubai South HQ Building at 7am, offering participants a well-designed route around the Al Maktoum International Airport area, with options for 40km or 80km distances. 

The Dubai South Run, beginning at 4:30pm from the same location, will feature 3km, 5km, and 10km routes for runners of all levels. 

Registration is open, and participants will receive a race pack with essentials. Prizes and medals will be awarded in various categories.

Rare aerial photographs of early UAE on sale for AED500,000 at SIBF

Rare, original aerial photographs of the UAE, taken shortly after the country’s formation, are on sale for AED500,000 at the Sharjah International Book Fair (SIBF).

These previously classified photographs, captured between 1975 and 1977, offer a detailed aerial survey of the region. The collection, known as the ‘Only surviving set of the original aerial survey of the UAE’, played a crucial role in the early mapping of the desert area and was originally classified for military use. 

The exhibitor hopes to sell the collection to government ministries, universities, or museums, based on its rarity and historical significance.
