An expat using social media to sell drugs in Dubai leads to a 10-year jail sentence

An Asian man was sentenced to ten years in prison by the Dubai Criminal Court after he was found guilty of possessing and selling drugs through a website and WhatsApp group.

The court fined the 47-year-old expat Dh50,000 and ordered him to be deported after serving his sentence.

According to authorities, the case began in February 2021, when the Dubai Police Anti-Narcotics Department received information that a person was in possession of a large number of drugs and psychotropic substances.

An investigating team tracked down the trafficker and raided his room, discovering a plastic bag carrying 7.5kg of methamphetamine, a scale, and packing tools.

Emirates Golden Visa holders can get a Dubai driving license without classes

Since its inception in November, the Golden Visa has been granted to nearly 44,000 Dubai residents.

The Roads and Transport Authority (RTA) has announced that Golden Visa holders in Dubai can obtain a driver’s license without undergoing any training.

“Present your previous driving licence approved in your country and issue a new one from RTA at the driving institutes after passing the knowledge and road tests,” the authority tweeted on Monday.

Golden Residency holders can receive a Dubai-issued license if they present the following documentation, according to the RTA website:

  • Original Emirates ID
  • A copy of the previous valid driving licence
  • Knowledge test and road test results.

In 2019, the UAE launched its Golden Visas long-term residence program. It allows foreigners to live, work, and study in the UAE without the need for a native sponsor and to own 100% of their business on the UAE’s mainland. These visas are valid for five or ten years and automatically renew.

‘Make a Wish Foundation’ fulfils wishes of 610 children from 31 nationalities in 2021

The Make a Wish Foundation announced that it fulfilled the wishes of 610 children from 31 nationalities suffering from dire medical conditions in 2021, noting it has fulfilled 5,000 wishes since its launch in 2010.

Sheikha Sheikha bint Saif bin Mohammed Al Nahyan, Honorary Chairperson and Life Patron of the “Make a Wish” Foundation UAE, and wife of H.H. Dr. Sheikh Sultan bin Khalifa Al Nahyan, Adviser to the UAE President, said the 50th year has been an exceptional one, as many charity initiatives were launched, noting the foundation has fulfilled 5,000 wishes despite the COVID-19 pandemic.

The foundation has also achieved its 2021 strategy, fulfilling 610 wishes for 339 boys and 271 girls from 31 nationalities, she added, expressing her happiness at the foundation’s success in achieving its strategy. This is due to the UAE community’s culture of giving and ethics, as well as the support of Sheikhs, business leaders, companies, federal and local authorities and philanthropists.

Sheikha Sheikha stressed the foundation has fulfilled the wishes of 383 children in the UAE and 227 in Jordan.

“At the start of the country’s upcoming 50 years, we aim to strengthen the UAE’s overall achievements, most notably in the humanitarian sector. We look forward to forging further beneficial partnerships with public and private entities,” she further added.

The Holy month of Ramadan is set to begin on April 2nd, according to Ibrahim Al-Jarwan of the International Union for Astronomy and Space Sciences.

According to Al-Jarwan, the 6th month of the Islamic calendar year, Jumada Al Akhirah, will begin on Tuesday, January 4, 2022. Thus, Ramadan is still three months away.

For spreading rumors in the UAE, officials have issued a year in prison and a fine of AED 100,000.

On its social media sites, the UAE Public Prosecution posted a video underlining the potential consequences for disseminating rumours and fake news.

The goal of Federal Decree Law No. 34 of 2021 is to counteract the dissemination of rumors and false information.

Anyone who uses the internet to publish, circulate, or spread fake news, rumors, or misleading information that contradicts official sources might face a year in prison and a fine of AED 100,000, according to Article 52 of the law.

Mohamed bin Zayed directs treatment of 3-year-old Afghan boy with cancer

His Highness Sheikh Mohamed bin Zayed Al Nahyan, Crown Prince of Abu Dhabi and Deputy Supreme Commander of the UAE Armed Forces, has directed to arrange medical treatment for Muhammad Aamir Dawood, a 3-year-old Afghan boy who is suffering from cancer.

In a prompt move to help the child’s family, currently residing at the Emirates Humanitarian City in Abu Dhabi, His Highness ordered to transfer the 3-year-old boy to the United States of America to get the necessary treatment. The kind gesture highlights the UAE’s well-established principles of solidarity and giving that ensures assistance to all in need.

His Highness Sheikh Mohamed bin Zayed’s directives to arrange medical treatment for the Afghan child reflects the UAE’s values of giving and His Highness’s interest in protecting human dignity, without any discrimination based on race, colour or religion.

Under the directives of the wise leadership, H.H. Sheikh Theyab bin Mohamed bin Zayed Al Nahyan, Chairman of Abu Dhabi Crown Prince’s Court, visited the Afghan child at his residence in the Emirates Humanitarian City.

During Sheikh Theyab’s visit, he was received by Mohammed Matar Abdullah Al Marar, Director of the Emirates Humanitarian City, along with a number of officials.

H.H. Sheikh Theyab was briefed by the medical team in the city about the condition of the child. He met the child’s parents and reassured them about the treatment in the United States of America and the completion of all the required procedures, in compliance with the directives of the wise leadership to provide the necessary support and care.

Sheikh Theyab also met with a number of Afghan families who are temporarily hosted by the Emirates Humanitarian City and talked to them about their stay in the city, the services provided to them. The families expressed their great happiness and gratitude to the United Arab Emirates for the warm hospitality extended to them during their stay.

H.H. Sheikh Theyab bin Mohamed added that the UAE would remain a symbol of help and support in times of trouble and a source of inspiration when it comes to humanitarian work.

His Highness noted the UAE will spare no effort in fulfilling its humanitarian mission, which stems from its innate values of giving and doing good, and providing assistance to all in need worldwide.

Emirates Humanitarian City was established in 2020 and designed to ensure privacy and meet the best standards of security and safety. Its external squares include a number of playgrounds and entertainment facilities for children and adults, in addition to a preventive health centre and provisions of medicine, food and other necessities.
