Hamdan bin Mohamed appoints new CEO of Emiri Affairs Sector at Dubai Ruler’s Court

H.H. Sheikh Hamdan bin Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Crown Prince of Dubai and Chairman of Dubai Executive Council, has issued Executive Council Resolution No. (4) of 2022 appointing Essa Al Mutaiwei as CEO of the Emiri Affairs Sector at the Dubai Ruler’s Court.

The Resolution is effective from its date of issuance and will be published in the Official Gazette.

Arabian Travel Market changes 2022 dates to accommodate new UAE working week

Reed Exhibitions (RX), the organiser of Arabian Travel Market (ATM), has announced that this year’s four-day event will open on Monday 9th May 2022 and close on Thursday 12th May 2022, to fall in line with the UAE’s new Monday-to-Friday working week.

Taking place at the Dubai World Trade Centre (DWTC), the revised dates are also expected to complement international markets, the majority of which also follow the Monday-to-Friday working week.

FIFA Club World Cup UAE 2021 roadshow set to kick off in February

The Mobile Roadshow for the FIFA Club World Cup 2021 presented by Alibaba Cloud is kicking off in the build-up to the much-anticipated tournament, which will take place from 3rd to 12th February 2022.

Football fans across the UAE will have the chance to engage with a series of experiential activations that will include an opportunity to see the FIFA Club World Cup Winner’s Trophy and meet Dhabi, the Official Mascot of the tournament.

The roadshow is part of FIFA and the Local Organising Committee’s engagement plans. It aims to positively impact the community by promoting an active lifestyle among the region’s young people while raising awareness about the competition. Planned destinations include shopping centres and other public venues such as Expo 2020.

Fans will also feast their eyes on and even have their picture taken with the prestigious FIFA Club World Cup trophy. The iconic trophy, which was first featured in the 2005 edition of the FIFA Club World Cup in Japan, sits at the heart of the roadshow.

Additionally, crowd favourite Dhabi will greet fans of all ages as he returns as the Official Mascot for the FIFA Club World Cup 2021. The fun-loving young Arabian gazelle has made four previous appearances representing the competition in the UAE, first in 2009 and most recently in 2018.

Commenting on the announcement, Mohammed Abdulla Hazzam Al Dhaheri, Spokesperson for the FIFA Club World Cup UAE Local Organising Committee, said, “We are very pleased to welcome Dhabi back to our community and roadshow programmes ahead of the highly anticipated tournament. Our community programmes are an essential part of hosting the FIFA Club World Cup in Abu Dhabi, a global sports capital, for the fifth time.

“We want to offer fans an unforgettable experience, and one that positively impacts the community and inspires sports participation and a healthy lifestyle.”

The roadshow will build excitement ahead of the opening match between host association champions Al Jazira Club and OFC representative AS Pirae on 3rd February.

The other participating clubs are Chelsea FC, CF Monterrey, Al Hilal SFC, Al Ahly SC and SE Palmeiras, respectively the winners of the UEFA, Concacaf, AFC and CAF Champions Leagues and the CONMEBOL Libertadores.

Following the latest local health authorities’ advice, children under the age of 12 will not attend the matches. Ticketholders above 12 years old must present both their Green Pass on the ALHOSN app and a negative PCR test result valid for no more than 48 hours to gain entry to the venue.

Emirates resumes passenger service to five destinations

According to Emirates statement, The company will put back into service passenger services to and from Guinea (CKY), Cote d’Ivoire (ABJ), Ghana (ACC), Uganda (EBB) and Angola (LAD) as of 13 January. 

All passengers arriving and transiting Dubai must meet the following travel protocols:

  • Passenger travelling from Guinea (CKY), Uganda (EBB) or Ghana (ACC) with final destination DXB requires 48‑hours PCR and 06‑hours Rapid PCR and PCR on arrival in DXB
  • Passengers travelling from Guinea (CKY), Uganda (EBB), Ghana (ACC) and Cote d’Ivoire (ABJ) and transiting DXB are only required to follow final destination rules i.e. no 48 hours PCR or no 06‑hours PCR unless it is mandated by the final destination.
  • Passengers travelling from Angola (LAD) or Cote d’Ivoire (ABJ) and inbound DXB are required to have 72 hours PCR and PCR on arrival in DXB
  • Passengers travelling from Angola (LAD) and transiting DXB are only required to have 72 hours PCR.
  • Passengers travelling from CKY – DSS must follow final destination rules i.e. no 48 hours PCR or no 06‑hours PCR unless it is mandated by the final destination.
  • Passengers accepted for travel under the travel protocol must present a valid negative COVID 19 PCR test certificate with a QR code for a test conducted at an approved facility within the stipulated hours of departure, test validity must be calculated from the time the sample was collected.
  • Passengers who are required to undergo COVID 19 PCR test on arrival, must remain in self‑quarantine until they receive the test result.

UAE Nationals & children under the age of 12 are exempt.

Dates for pension disbursements in 2022 announced

The General Pension and Social Security Authority (GPSSA) has announced the pension disbursement dates for beneficiaries during the year 2022.

The payment will be made on the 27th of each month except for August when it will be given on the 26th, GPSSA said in a statement, adding, in February, March, and November, the pension will be paid on the 25th.

The Authority has called on beneficiaries to follow GPSSA’s unified account (GPSSAAE) on all social media platforms, including Instagram, Twitter, and Facebook, for disbursement dates and any updates.

Saif bin Zayed honours woman behind ‘Zayed: Man of the Nation’ mural

H.H. Lt. General Sheikh Saif bin Zayed Al Nahyan, Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of the Interior, today honoured Najla Al Banai, the woman behind the mural initiative entitled “Zayed: Man of the Nation”.

Al Banai proposed the initiative to create the largest mural in the world to the Ministry of Interior’s Innovation Centre.

The mural made it into the Guinness World Records book and is displayed at the Police Academy Square in Abu Dhabi.

Lt. General Sheikh Saif awarded Al Banai a certificate of recognition for her innovative efforts.

Al Banai expressed her happiness at being honoured by the Minister of Interior and for the support and appreciation that her initiative received.

Remote learning system extended an extra week: UAE Government media briefing

Hazza Al Mansouri, Official Spokesman of the UAE Education Sector, announced, during UAE Government media briefing on the COVID-19 pandemic, the extension of the remote learning system for schools and universities for an extra week from 17th to 21st January, 2022, and the postponement of all in-person exams to 28th January, 2022.

Dr. Noura Al Ghaithi, Official Spokesperson of the UAE Health Sector, highlighted the importance of the community’s adherence to preventive measures aimed at curbing the spread of COVID-19.

She explained that the UAE has presented a pioneering model in terms of dealing with the pandemic from the onset, which is the product of the close cooperation between all relevant authorities to implement the directives of the UAE’s leadership to ensure public safety and accelerate recovery.

She noted that the health sector is continuing its efforts to achieve acquired immunity by providing vaccines to all eligible individuals and added that 100 percent of the population had received the first dose of the vaccine while 92.76 percent are fully vaccinated.

Dr. Al Ghaithi explained that vaccines, both primary and booster shots, can significantly help reduce infection, hospitalisation and death rates and curb the spread of variants. In addition, she urged eligible individuals to take booster shots, especially the elderly and those with chronic diseases, as it helps address national efforts to contain the virus and its variants.

“We urge the community’s members to be cautious and perform the necessary tests if they present with symptoms, especially respiratory symptoms associated with seasonal flu. PCR tests are necessary in these cases to confirm infections,” she stressed.

Al Mansouri presented the latest information on the procedures and directives of the Ministry of Education related to updates of the COVID-19 preventive measures.

He then stressed that the educational sector is ready and has taken proactive measures for prompt action in emergency cases, in line with the sector’s keenness to maintain the continuity of the education process by closely monitoring the situation.

The pandemic is being closely monitored to facilitate the safe return of students, teachers and administrative staff to educational establishments and ensure their safety, he added.

He pointed out that the remote learning system has been extended for one week for schools and universities from 17th to 21st January, 2022, while in-person exams have been postponed for schools and universities to 28th January, 2022.

“This decision applies to educational establishments nationwide, with local authorities and teams having the authority to regulate its implementation,” Al Mansouri noted.

The administrations and cadres of educational establishments have demonstrated a high sense of professionalism in their flexible handling of the situation from the onset, he further added.

At the end of the briefing, he stressed the importance of adhering to the precautionary measures to ensure the community’s safety.

Tourism in Dubai thrives despite COVID-19 pandemic – tourism chief

According to Issam Kazim, CEO of the emirate’s Department of Tourism and Commerce Marketing, Dubai fared well in tourism during the COVID-19 pandemic.

Kazim said: “People are focusing a lot on the health and safety measures that a city has put in place, and that gives them the confidence to travel – whether it is for business or family. Dubai has done a brilliant job not only in doing it and executing it but also communicating it well.”

At a time when COVID-19 was crippling the business internationally, Kazim said the emirate positioned itself as a safe city that delivers a 360-degree experience.

Between January and October 2021, the emirate received 4.88 million visitors, with a total of 9.4 million accommodation nights booked.

UAE Cybercrime Law: Strident penalties for spreading rumours and spreading fake news

According to the report of Gulf News, spreading rumors or spreading false information online has always been a criminal offense in the UAE. However, with the current modifications to the UAE’s Cybercrime Law, the penalties for such offenses have become more severe.

Anyone who publish, republish, or circulate fake news, information, or propaganda, they can face up to a year in prison and a fine of Dh100,000.

Federal Law 5 of 2012, the Cybercrimes Law, has been significantly amended by the new Federal Decree Law No 34 of 2021, which covers offenses committed online.

People that propagate rumors aim for a variety of purposes, including psychological, financial, social, and economic ones.

“Due to the dangerous nature of the crime, Emirati legislators have sought stringent punishments in the new amendment to effectively combat rumours and cybercrimes.”

Under Article 52 of Federal Decree-Law No 34 of 2021 on combating rumours and cybercrimes, anyone propagating rumours or posting false news online faces a year in prison and a Dh100,000 fine.

“The punishment can be up to two years in jail and a fine of Dh200,000 if the information published or shared results in agitating or stirring up public opinion against State authorities or institutions or are committed during times of pandemics, crises, emergencies or disasters,” authority said. 

No Salik toll fees on Al Maktoum Bridge during some hours on weekdays

According to the report of Khaleej Times, when the Floating Bridge is closed, Dubai’s Roads and Transport Authority (RTA) confirmed that the toll-free hours on Al Maktoum Bridge apply.

The Floating Bridge will be closed Monday through Friday from 10 p.m. to 6 a.m. beginning January 15. Saturday at 10 p.m. to 6 a.m. on Monday

“Yes, Salik costs would not be applied on Al Maktoum Bridge when the Floating Bridge is closed,” RTA said.

Dubai’s autonomous road toll collection system is known as Salik. A price of Dh4 is automatically withdrawn from a prepaid account each time a vehicle passes through a Salik toll point.
