The UAE is now on a six-month countdown to Ramadan 2024. Rabi Al Awwal, which follows after Safar in the Islamic Hijri calendar, is anticipated to begin on September 16, according to Ibrahim Al Jarwan, head of the Emirates Astronomy Society.
Ramadan is expected to begin in the second week of March 2024, perhaps culminating in Eid Al Fitr on April 10. The sighting of the crescent Moon, the cornerstone of the Islamic Hijri calendar, will decide the official dates. Unlike the Gregorian calendar, Islamic months can be 29 or 30 days long, depending on the sight of the moon.
Muslims fast from sunrise to the Maghrib (dusk) prayer throughout Ramadan, emphasising self-discipline, gratitude, and compassion. It is a time of spiritual growth, with greater devotion, Quranic study, and empathy for the less fortunate.
Ramadan creates a more spiritual atmosphere in the UAE, resulting in altered and shorter school and working hours. As Ramadan comes to an end, Eid Al Fitr celebrations begin on the first day of Shawwal (the month following Ramadan). This includes charity deeds like as Zakat Al Fitr, a special morning prayer, feasting, and sweet sharing.
