“We should aim to be spiritually aware, emotionally connected and in touch with our inner child: this formula will bring true happiness and balance. It’s a never-ending journey of self -improvement and awareness, yet ever so rewarding.”
– Pamela Lilburn Opie
Pamela Lilburne Opie, the visionary Founder and CEO of Linen Obsession, has emerged as a prominent figure in the world of textiles and entrepreneurship. With a remarkable career in the industry, Pamela’s journey has been marked by resilience, self-discovery, and a passion for uplifting others.
Pamela’s story began in Melbourne, Australia, where she spent her childhood immersed in the beauty of the countryside and farm life. It was during these formative years that her love for nature and a deep sense of self-reliance took root. Facing challenges from an early age, Pamela demonstrated remarkable determination, eventually finding stability and happiness in the care of foster parents.
Inspired by the book “Pollyanna,” which emphasises unwavering positivity in the face of adversity, Pamela adopted a mindset that shaped her future endeavors. Armed with an innate understanding of her own strength and sensitivity, she developed a deep propensity for empathy to others.
The transition from the corporate world to entrepreneurship proved to be a pivotal moment for Pamela. As she embarked on her own business venture, she discovered untapped reserves of goal orientation, endless positivity, and self-motivation. Failure was not an option, and Pamela persevered, tirelessly problem-solving until she found the perfect business model and assembled a talented team around her, a team that continues to inspire her every day.
With 25 years’ experience in home textiles and brand management, Pamela is passionate about quality bedding and innovative sleep products. She has worked with Australia’s largest textile manufacturing group for more than ten years, as well as with Sheridan Australia and Managed Esprit Homewares for the Middle East.
In 2008, Pamela moved to Dubai to start her own home textiles business, representing quality British and European brands. Linen Obsession is now the exclusive distributor of 14 quality linen brands including Christy England, Ted Baker, Harlequin, Sanderson, Donna Karan, Morris & Co, Kauffmann Sanders of Germany, Velfont from Spain, and Bedeck of Belfast.
In late 2022, Linen Obsession launched their first flagship retail store of the same name in Mirdif City Center, Dubai focusing on sleep solutions. This wholistic new retail concept was created by Pamela as a destination for connoisseurs of world class linen, wellness, and sleep enhancement products. It is 100% integrated with their digital shopping platform: linenobsession.ae.
Today, Linen Obsession is the largest bedding supplier to most major department stores and has a robust export and wholesale business. Linen Obsession operates 35 branded areas within leading department stores across the gulf countries where it provides the stock and the staff to ensure professional service and solutions are provided to customers.
Pamela developed the Christy England brand to become the best-selling brand in every department store it’s stocked in, and her company’s brands frequently contribute to half of the bedding sales in stores and sometimes much more. She is well known in the home textiles industry for her excellent technical knowledge, passion for good brands, great brand management and innovative products. Pamela has a deep understanding of the importance of sleep for physical, emotional, and mental wellbeing, and is working on increasing awareness of this important health topic in the region.
At the helm of Linen Obsession, Pamela has fostered a people-centered culture that prioritises the well-being and happiness of her employees. Believing that the workplace should be free from competition and driven by inclusivity, she cultivates a unified team culture, where every staff member is treated equally and fairly. This approach, influenced by her Australian background and its emphasis on trade unions and fairness, has created a harmonious environment where individuals thrive and collaborate. Committed to making a positive impact on her team, she actively supports her staff, many of whom come from countries without robust social security networks. Pamela takes immense pride in knowing that Linen Obsession provides support to over 60 families worldwide.
In addition to her dedication to her business and employees, Pamela is also a passionate advocate for social causes. This year, she contributed as a textiles consultant and donor to the JESS School’s “Period Poverty” project in central Africa. This initiative empowered girls by providing them with washable textile sanitary pads, enabling them to attend school without interruption. The project’s renaming to “Period Empowerment” symbolised Pamela’s belief in uplifting and empowering others.
As she looks to the future, Pamela envisions double growth for Linen Obsession over the next twelve months. The serial entrepreneur has plans to diversify and invest in digital ventures in the next few months. Moreover, she aspires to support other female entrepreneurs, leveraging her own experiences to empower and uplift women in their own entrepreneurial journeys.
When asked about the recipe for her success, Pamela emphasises the importance of hard work, focus, and caring for people. She firmly believes that true success lies in creating win-win situations and treating customers’ businesses as if they were her own. For Pamela, it is essential that a business fills a market niche or solves a genuine problem, ensuring its relevance and value.
Pamela Lilburne Opie’s story serves as an inspiration to aspiring entrepreneurs, reminding us that true success comes not only from business achievements but also from the balance achieved through self-improvement and empathy.
