The death toll from the earthquake that slammed multiple Moroccan provinces and prefectures on Friday has risen to 2,862, with 2,562 injured, according to Maghreb Arabe Press, quoting the Ministry of the Interior.
According to the government, the tremor killed 1,604 people in Al Haouz, 976 people in Taroudant, and one person in Essaouira. 2,854 of the deceased have been buried.
Authorities are still working to rescue and evacuate the injured. They are also deploying the essential resources to deal with the fallout from this catastrophe.
On Friday, September 8, a magnitude 6.8 earthquake hit 74 kilometres southwest of Marrakech, Morocco, at a recorded depth of 25.987 km.
