Dubai is set to add another architectural marvel to its skyline, as Azizi Developments recently confirmed plans to build the world’s second-tallest building, following the iconic Burj Khalifa.
Farhad Azizi, the CEO of Azizi Developments, announced this groundbreaking project on Twitter, stating, “It’s official: We are building what will be the second-tallest building in the world.” The tower’s exact height, name, and unit mix remain undisclosed for now, but it will grace Sheikh Zayed Road, a prime location in Dubai.
The younger Azizi mentioned that the tower would represent the Azizi Developments brand and shared his pride in the company’s journey, which started humbly in Afghanistan in 1989, with his father founding the company with just $500.
The plan to construct this awe-inspiring tower was first revealed during Cityscape Dubai in November the previous year, where the initial announcement focused on building the second-tallest tower in Dubai. However, the ambition now aims to surpass Merdeka 118 in Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia, which stands at 678.9 meters. Although it won’t surpass the 828-meter Burj Khalifa’s record, it will rank higher than the 632-meter Shanghai Tower, claiming the second spot in the world’s tallest buildings.
Azizi Developments is a leading real estate developer in Dubai, with around 100 ongoing projects slated for delivery this year and more in the pipeline. The company reported selling over 6,000 units worth AED5.6 billion last year. Additionally, Azizi Developments is well-regarded for its corporate social responsibility initiatives, having pledged AED100 million to the ‘1 Billion Meals Endowment’ launched by His Highness Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum during Ramadan.
The company has been actively involved in various initiatives supporting sports, women’s empowerment, medical assistance, scholarships, and more. Their support extends to organizations such as the Rashid Centre for People of Determination and Dubai Autism Centre, along with contributing to healthcare facilities and educational institutions.
Farhad expressed deep commitment to the city and the country, emphasizing the importance of giving back to a place that has given them so much support and opportunity.
As the tower takes shape, Dubai’s skyline will continue to evolve, reaffirming the city’s reputation for innovation and grandeur in the global architecture landscape.
