Maj Atiqa Al Dhaheri, a Dubai policewoman, has made history by becoming the first woman to lead the marine rescue department in the force.
Overcoming her deep-seated fear of water, Maj Al Dhaheri is also determined to become the first female rescue diver on the force. Her fear stemmed from a childhood incident when she nearly drowned, but she decided to face her fear head-on and enrolled in a specialized marine rescue training program.
Initially hesitant, she gradually built her confidence through swimming lessons and overcame her fear of water.
With her newfound skills, she excelled in her training on operating rescue boats and is currently undergoing training to become Dubai Police’s first female rescue diver.
Maj Al Dhaheri hopes to continue breaking barriers for women in the police force and dreams of establishing specialized women’s departments in the maritime sector and leading a police station fully led by women.
