H.H. Sheikh Hamdan bin Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Crown Prince of Dubai and Chairman of the Dubai Executive Council, launched the Genome Centre at Dubai Police’s General Department of Forensic Science and Criminology.
This programme bolsters Dubai Police’s global leadership in technology and science. The center’s focus is on creating sophisticated tests in forensic identification, genetics, and metagenomics, which aligns with the UAE’s National Genomics Strategy.
This places Dubai Police at the forefront of genomic science among law enforcement organisations globally. The Genome Centre is divided into four sections: Human Genome, Metagenome, Bioinformatics, and Biotechnology, each having specialised tasks in genetic analysis and data processing.
In addition, Dubai Police is funding selected staff and students to pursue advanced genetics study at prestigious international institutions.
